A brief treatise on honey.

when I boil my tea

I like to put the honey

in

first

so that when the water boils in

it seeps with the chai and chamomile and earls of grey. And

honey

is why I say

my favorite food is baklava

because it is the most socially

acceptable

way to consume so much

sticky

goodness

in public. And so,

when I call you

hun

I am of course, abbreviating

and not because I want to mimic

the woman at the diner

who fries hash browns and calls up omelets

while encouraging pies

to the tables of townies

over sunday morning’s news;

but instead

because you are

honey

sweet and

slow moving and

golden

when the light passes through.
